Dear HCC family and friends:
“Peace be with you”
Every week in worship we pass the peace of Christ to one another. It was a greeting Jesus himself used with his disciples. Paul began each of his letters with the words “Grace and peace be with you”.
Each week that we share this ancient, traditional greeting with one another we are proclaiming our identity as peacemakers in this world.
This week and next we leave Mark’s gospel for John. We will celebrate and reflect on “the peace of Christ that passes all understanding” (Philippians 4:7) We will start on that mountain by the sea of Galilee and the feeding of the multitudes that had followed Jesus. Our time in John will continue next week and end at the Lord’s table, sharing communion together.
It’s a very familiar miracle story, the only one that appears in all four gospels. How will this miracle story resonate with you as you hear it again?
